Don’t use toothpaste. Lots of people believe toothpaste can help them get rid of pimples. However, toothpaste, actually sucks moisture out of your skin, which increases your likelihood of developing pimples.
Although acne treatments are usually discussed for areas like the nose and chin, acne doesn’t just develop on the face. If you’re more prone to acne from risk factors such as hormones or oily skin, you may develop blemishes anywhere on your body — including your chest.
Probably the most important thing you can do is exfoliate. Whether you use a body scrub, a loofa, or a back brush, it’s an important step in removing the dead skin and bacteria that clogs your pores and creates acne. Do it once a day in the shower for a few minutes at moderate intensity—you’re not trying to remove your skin all together.
I’m going to try the honey remedy. After I try that for the half an hour thing I’m going to take my shower and before bed use the ice and toothpaste trick (classic).Hopefully after trying this for three weeks it will solve all my problems. If the toothpaste trick does not work I will switch to the ice and lemon remedy before bed. I can’t wait to try this because I’ve had enough acne problems in my life. Because believe me… walking into school everyday looking like I had eaten a pepperoni pizza wrong and having all the pepperoni’s left over on my face is not fun. Not fun at ALL! Anyway guys thanks for all the reviews and thoughts from all of you… and wish me luck! I’m seriously hoping this stuff works. Fingers crossed!!!! 🙂
Aspirin contains salicylic acid, which is a top-shelf acne fighter by all accounts. Applying a paste made of aspirin immediately removes excess oil and dead skin. In other words, it helps to unclog and dry out your angry pore, while simultaneously reducing swelling and redness. It’s one of the home remedies that dermatologists recommend, and it even helps reduce pain at the application site. To make an aspirin paste, crush an aspirin with a spoon and swirl it with a few drop of water, creating a paste. Then, apply it directly to the pimple!
1. Use a spot treatment after the potential scar appears. If you’re prone to scarring or have a particular bad one-off pimple, apply a targeted healer like Clean and Clear Mark Treatment to the area. It uses salicylic acid to prevent further breakouts or damage to the skin. “However, sometimes salicylic acid can temporarily worsen inflamed acne,” Lortscher warns. So, use it sparingly, and discontinue if you experience any additional inflammation.
Medication isn’t the only thing you put in your mouth that could be affecting your acne. Studies have found that excess insulin from foods with a high glycemic index, like packaged foods as well as pasta, bread, and rice, may play a role in the effects of androgens (like oil-encouraging testosterone) on acne. Meanwhile, foods that are heavy in hormones, like dairy products, are often at the top of the list of things dermatologists recommend cutting out for clearer skin. “Milk naturally contains a great number of hormones — there is no such thing as hormone-free milk,” says William Danby, an assistant professor of dermatology at the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth, who has published many studies about diet and skin. Danby advises acne patients to cut down on dairy and eliminate straight-up milk altogether.
A report presented by New York University and published in The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics states that eating high glycemic foods like bakery goods and sweet beverages that are high in sugar content causes pimples (5). Having too many dairy products is also not good for your skin, though they are high in calcium. These pimples can be corrected by following the right diet.

While it’s tempting to mix up a cure-all witches’ brew of whatever drying agents you have in the house, Dr. Tanzi says she sees a lot of irritation from DIY skin care products. Even toothpaste isn’t the remedy it was when we were teens. According to Dr. Zeichner, triclosan (the ingredient in toothpaste that has antimicrobial properties) is a rarely used these days. But if you are in a pinch and need to DIY it, here are some tips that are actually legit—and derm-approved.
If you’re still experiencing breakouts after eight weeks, visit a dermatologist, if you have big, angry pimples. “Scarring is preventable if you treat acne early but permanent if you don’t,” says Joshua Zeichner, the director of cosmetic and clinical research at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City. Your exact treatment will depend on what the doctor learns after examining you and talking to you about your acne. But there are a few main paths that doctors take.
I had bumps on the back of my arms al my life but I’m not sure they were KP as they were not red. They “felt like” ingrown hairs. I got rid of them when I switched from regular soaps and body washes to homemade soaps. As indicated in the first step above, these soaps do not contain the harsh lathering agents…just good ol’ fashioned lye and fat (oils). In addition to getting rid of those bumps, I have never had a problem with winter-dry cracked elbows since using the homemade soaps. Jillee has a wonderful photo tutorial on making… Read more »
As teens, you have probably gone first through the “breakout” phase, and you have pretty much struggled with finding different remedies to make your nasty pimples or acne go away. As adults, regrettably, we find out that we are still fighting against pimples and acne. Yep, many of us know this all too well.
• Milk and dairy consumption is closely linked with acne (and many other skin and health problems) in part because of the hormones (including growth hormone) in dairy and because of the saturated fats.
Tea tree oil is a widely used alternative skin remedy to treat acne and other conditions. According to the Mayo Clinic, products with 5 percent of this oil may work just as well as 5 percent benzoyl peroxide. The key, though, is patience. Tea tree oil works a bit slower than conventional medications.
Retinol is a vitamin A derivative, which the skin absorbs and converts to retinoic acid. Retin-A is the prescription form. “Topical retinoids are fortunately one of the most effective treatments for acne, and also happens to be a highly effective antiaging ingredient, because of its collagen-building properties,” Dr. Tzu notes. The biggest downside is they’re harsh and can sometimes be too much for sensitive skin. For an elegant OTC option, try Dr. Dennis Gross Skincare Ferulic Acid + Retinol Brightening Solution.
