Rinse your face with water and pat dry. Mash up the flesh of the papaya well, until it is of a consistency that can be easily applied to your skin. Leave it on for 15-20 minutes, and then rinse off completely with warm water. If your skin has a tendency to get dry after you cleanse it, use a moisturizer appropriate for your skin type afterwards.
On this subject, Renée is most clear: “Whenever a blemish appears, the goal is to get it to heal quickly. Most people have a myriad of zit-zapping spot treatments in their bathroom and will apply these generously the moment a blemish pops up in hopes of drying it out to get it to go away more rapidly. But most spot treatments actually make the blemish stick around longer when used in this way. It will also lead to a prolonged recovery time with scarring.” The reason is that when used too early, the drying lotion will dry out the skin on top of the infection, actually trapping the infection from coming out. “Have you ever tried to squeeze a blemish that has been dried out with a spot treatment? I’m sure you’ve experienced sheets of skin peeling off which will result in more scarring. Not good,” Renée says. “The best solution is to leave it alone to get rid of it faster.” Frustrating, but probably true.
Blackheads are a mild form of acne that appear as unsightly, open pores that appear darker than the skin surrounding them. They get their dark appearance from a skin pigment called melanin, which oxidizes and turns black when it’s exposed to the air. Blackheads aren’t caused by dirt, but by sebum (oil) and dead skin cells blocking the pore. If the pore remains open, it becomes a blackhead; if it’s completely blocked and closed, it turns into a whitehead.

Sugar, white or brown, helps get rid of the excess skin cells clogging up your pores by acting as gentle exfoliator. Mix it up with honey, olive oil, or just plain water, and you have a sweet scrub to help rid you of your acne woes. There are plenty of different recipes out there, but we found this one to be particularly delightful (courtesy of cjanecreate.com-thank you for sharing this!)
Cystic pimples are inflammatory acne which involves more white blood cells rushing to the area and because there are more enzymes in that area, it leads to more destruction. The skin then tries to desperately heal itself which results in a scar.
So, if you want to get rid of acne quickly, you could try cutting out milk and products from your diet. Many other food allergies could also trigger acne including nuts, soy, wheat etc. It is best you keep a journal and try eliminating these items one by one.

This is where the spot treatment comes in. My favorite is Nelson’s Acne Gel, which you can buy on Amazon and at Whole Foods. It’s a homeopathic gel treatment with sulfur that makeup artists use backstage at Fashion Week, when the pimple treatment window is a maximum of 60 minutes, and I’m always amazed how well it works. It also smells like a dumpster fire, but the unpleasant odor is a small price to pay for looking fresh when wake up the next morning. Adjust your priorities accordingly.

You know when you’re getting a pimple even before you see it. “When a pimple is under your skin, you can feel pain if you push on the area. That’s when the bacteria is starting to irritate,” explains Dr. Lee. As the spot gets redder and rises to the surface to become a pustule (aka a pimple that looks “squeezable”) your body is recruiting white cells in order to fight it off. “Your body is pushing out the pimple,” she says. Cystic acne is a more severe form of acne; also pus-filled, cysts can be deep and have the potential to scar. A nodule is a hard, solid lesion that’s also deep within the skin.
All dermatologists agree that you should never, ever pick at your pimple. We repeat: Do not pick at your pimple. “It may seem tempting, but remember that once you’ve picked at an acne lesion, it will take longer to heal and is more likely to scar,” warns dermatologist Dr. Doris Day, author of 100 Questions and Answers About Acne. Trust us on this one.
Hi! I recently tried out the toothpaste – it didn’t work for me because I have sensitive skin, so if you do have sensitive skin, I advise you don’t do it, otherwise go ahead. Only do the toothpaste once or twice a week, your skin can get really dry if you do. I’ve done the ice every night, I have seen an improvement, so thumbs up to that 🙂 lemon juice didn’t really do that much for me though, I used the lemon juice when I had a breakout (>.<) and it only stopped the acne, it didn't get rid of it. But that's just me, everyone's skin is different. Everyday Roots is intended for informational purposes only.
