In order to treat acne marks and scars, it’s helpful to learn how to distinguish between the two. “Patients often mistake dark spots for acne scars but they’re actually very different,” says New York-based dermatologist Whitney Bowe, M.D. The red, purple, or brown marks that linger after a pimple or blemish has disappeared are classified by derms as post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. “These marks can take between 3-6 months to go away on their own,” notes Sejal Shah, M.D., a New York-based dermatologist. “You can expedite the process with a diligent treatment of topical retinoids, vitamin C serums, sunscreen, and over-the-counter brighteners.” True acne scars, however, are permanent indentations from collagen damage and can come in many shapes and forms, says Dr. Bowe, and laser treatments and temporary dermal fillers are the only ways to treat the issue. Some scars are thick, raised hypertrophic scars that stick out above the skin; others are keloid, which are scars that have over-healed, and manifest as dense, rubbery skin tissue. What is a pimple in the first place? A pimple is a small comedone, pustule or papule that forms a skin lesion; the more technical term is acne vulgaris. Aloe vera gel has a pleasant soothing effect on the skin. In addition to its antibacterial properties, it also reduces redness and swelling. Aloe vera is a nice indoor plant, so you should consider growing it at home. But you can also buy the extracted gel in a drug store.

But are there really foods that cause acne, or is that an old wives’ tale? Dermatologist Hilary Baldwin, MD, of the Acne Treatment and Research Centre in Morristown, New Jersey, says the answer isn’t really simple at all. “The simple answer is, we don’t know. So far studies have suggested that high-glycemic index diets (those with lots of white foods like potatoes, pasta, bread, rice and sweets), as well as diets high in skim-milk dairy products and whey protein supplements might be associated with worsening of existing acne but are less likely to cause acne,” Baldwin says.
Since hormones are fat soluble, the body uses these glands to excrete fat-based hormones, specifically in the chin and jawline area. It’s also important to know that out of the blue, you can suddenly develop an intolerance to dairy. The body is very uniquely strange in this way!

Models might seem like untouchable superhumans who never feel the need to awkwardly rearrange the bridal party order so they have their “good side” in photos, but as it turns out, they, too, have pores that release sebum.
